Former military head of State and the presidential candidate of the Congress for Positive Change (CPC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday berated the former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo over alleged squandering of resources that accrued to him without commensurate infrastructural development saying that the revenue Obasanjo’s government collected was more than what accrued to the nation from 1914 to 1999.
Buhari who made this known yesterday during the grand-finale campaign of the CPC candidate, Mr. James Enejo Ocholi (SAN) at the Lokoja Township Stadium said Nigerians should call Obasanjo to order on how he spent the money.
“What Nigeria realized from 1914 when Lokoja was the headquarters till 1999 was much less that what was earned during former President Olusegun Obansajo’s eight years. Go to Central bank office; go to Accountant General Office you will find out the figures. Where is this money? What is the situation of our infrastructures; why is it that so many people are out of jobs, how much money is spent on electricity, how much is spent on roads and railway. Nigerians should ask Obasanjo how he spent the money,” Buhari said.
The retired general who lamented at the deplorable state of infrastructure and social decay in the country said the PDP government should be blamed for the woes that have befallen the nation, stressing that billions of Naira were wasted and siphoned out of the country by unscrupulous government officials at the detriment of the future of the youths who are roaming the streets without jobs.
Buhari noted that for the brief period of his government and the time he served as the chairman of the petroleum Trust Fund PTF the nation’s infrastructures such as roads, schools hospitals, pipe borne water and security received tremendous boost adding that with billions of petrol dollars to PDP led government these infrastructures have been run down with the people becoming poorer by the day.
The former head of state said the issue of corruption in the country had reached a frightening dimension that only God and the installation of CPC led government which is a r believes in transparency and accountability could deliver the nation.
He added that all hope was not lost since the people have a choice of voting for CPC for transformation or for the PDP to continue fostering perpetual poverty on the people.
“No CPC governor will be larger than the party. Anybody who steals public funds will go to jail and anyone who is not ready to work will be allowed to go”, he stated.
Buhari urged the people to vote for James Ocholi who he described as a courageous and credible man who would bring positive change to Kogi state.
In his address the governorship candidate, Barrister James Ochuli (SAN) urged the people to come out en masse and vote for him in the Saturday’s election saying the ruling party had failed the state.
Ochuli who was presented to the electorate at the rally also promised to embark on aggressive rehabilitation of roads, hospitals, schools and other such infrastructures.
