Explosion Rocks Kaduna, Again

A loud explosion has been reported from the Oriapkata area (Sardauna Crescent) of Kaduna Metropolis. The explosion occurred around 9am today. Multiple deaths and injuries have been reported from the scene. Sources close to the area said ‘a bomb’ went off around the premises of Oriakpata, a famous mechanic/automobile repair shop.

UPDATE 1: A statement released from the Kaduna police command says: “explosion came from shop selling batteries and gas cylinders – not bomb blast” … there are unconfirmed number of casualties.

Kaduna state police commissioner Bala Nasarawa told The Associated Press the explosion happened Wednesday morning in Kaduna, the state capital. Nasarawa said the explosion occurred in an auto parts market in the city.

The commissioner said at least seven person had died and others were wounded. He said investigators are looking at the cause of the blast, which occurred near cylinders of natural gas.

UPDATE 2: According to Sahara Reporters, A group suspected be islamist militants reportedly arrived the scene on motorbikes and threw  bombs into the crowded spare parts market, the bombs exploded killing 10 people and injuring several others.
