A new trend has been introduced to the activities of the #OccupyNigeria Movement, a group that was at the forefront of the fight against the fuel subsidy removal, as it has now started preparing for the 2015 general elections.
Though the identities of the people behind the group were not yet known, they brought the country to a standstill during the five days fuel subsidy removal protest.
The group has now signified its intention to float a political party and field candidates for political offices in 2015.
Preparatory to this, Occupy Nigeria is planning to register 20 million youths between ages 15 and 40 for 2015. Towards this end, it had collected 400 e-mails in 24 hours.
Information at our disposal was that the group was planning to raise money and candidates.
Most of the information was gathered on twitter — a social network, as the group boasted that: “In 2015, we will know true owners of Nigeria,” urging Nigerians to accept them.
“This concept should be motivated, supported and financed in order to free the nation,” the group said.
To sustain the idea and not to be hijacked by moneybags, the group has tasked would-be members to contribute N1,000 each, while it would not collect money above N50,000 from any donor and that “there is no room for godfatherism.”
