Palliatives Can’t Cushion Effect Of Subsidy Removal – Jigawa Gov.

Gov. Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, Nigeria

Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido yesterday ruled out the provision of palliatives measures by government as a cushion for the economic problems created by the removal of subsidy on petroleum products.

Such measures, according to him, merely keep Nigerians perpetually in a state of helplessness, as it is gradually becoming apparent that government had failed woefully in the discharge of its responsibilities.

Addressing State House correspondents after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan, the governor noted that, far from introducing palliatives, what the government ought to have done was to strengthen national institutions to create a feeling of self worth in citizens who
should be prepared to pay for the services they enjoyed.
